Brew At The Zoo
Nicole Severi
Illustration
This seemed like a fun event being held at the zoo, so I wanted to make a poster for it. The camels were one of my favorite animals I saw on our visit so I took a lot of photos of them and came up with the idea of combining the two interests. Since camels store water in their humps, I figured Brew At The Zoo would be a chance for humans to to store beer in theirs.

"The Duck Get What the Duck Get" is the title of a fictional newspaper. The catch phrase is a popular Caribbean saying which roughly translates to you get what you ask for and particularly pertains to when you do not work very hard to achieve a goal or you get a less than favorable outcome. The saying pertains to the UM football team because although they did achieve high academic standards under the latest dismissed head coach, they did not achieve the ultimate goal of achieving success on the field.

Newspaper Layout
By Erin Evon
I recently traveled to Spain and decided to do an article on it. I visited Granada, Sevilla, and Malaga. I learned a lot about the culture and had the chance to visit one of my best friends from Miami who is studying abroad in Sevilla. My favorite sites were The Alhambra and the Cathedral in Sevilla. I also got to eat paella, a Spanish omelette and many other wonderful Spanish foods. Another cool sight was the Spanish Steps in Sevilla where a scene was shot out of Arabian Nights. Malaga was also wonderful on the coast and we got to see Picasso's house and the Picasso museum. I liked writing the feature and all the photos are my original photos. Enjoy!

Human & Animal by Sagette Van Embden
Over the weekend, I photographed a swim competition where 2 olympic swimmers competed. And so, the entire weekend the swimmers were on my mind and so was the upcoming London 2012 olympics, because the 2012 olympics is supposed to be Michael Phelps' last olympics. In class today, we were to create an illustration that combined human trait with an animal trait, and so I created Michael Phelps (the worlds fastest swimmer) with butterfly wings, for the event that he competes in, the 200 butterfly.

Posterization by Sagette Van Embden
This in class assignment was really interesting to do, as I previously didn't know what posterization was, let alone how to do it. I experimented for most of this assignment and played around between illustrator and photoshop until I finally got the look that I wanted. This poster was inspired by a photograph that I had taken for an athlete series that I am doing for my photography class. I am a swimmer and for years I have seen interesting Speedo posters, and so I decided to use this photograph of a friend of mine who is a swimmer, and create an interesting poster of my own.

I did an article on my home. I live on Kiawah Island, located thirty minutes outside of Charleston, SC. Here are original photos and I did a layout that, after making it, reminded me of Silverstein's book A Light in the Attic. I talked about the adventure and the freedom given by living on an island. It's quaint and a fun place to live.
Typeface Typography Project
American Typewriter typeface project where I tried to revamp the old typewriter look that inspired the font. As one of my favorite fonts. I enjoy the vintage feel that American Typewriter feels. With the ink dripping down the page, I wanted to give a grunge feel to the piece. I used this type for one of my portfolio pieces, for my USPS campaign. The idea behind my campaign was "rewrite your education" and I wanted to have educational value to the piece and a vintage feel.
Small Typography Project
I did a CD cover from Ultra Music festival. I am going this weekend and really excited! I used Deadmau5 on the cover, who is playing this year, and a basic font on the back and front. I have been to Ultra the bast two years, and I love going. It's a holiday in my book. Tonight, I'm doing photos of some of the Ultra DJs who are doing an interview in a club in SoBe. I love house music, and I am excited for the weekend.

Handmade Posterization

I'd always admired this technique, but was never sure how to do it by hand. I spent a day in class experimenting with various tools and created this image of a woman's face. I'm happy with how it turned out and think it could be used for an advertisement or PSA regarding skin.

Editorial Poster by Sagette Van Embden
This editorial poster assignment has been one of my favorite assignments so far. I first watercolored the lady in the red dress, in order to represent the American Heart Association red dress foundation, and then I scanned that in and created this poster. For this assignment I enjoyed getting to use both the traditional medium of watercolor along with the digital ability to edit it further in photoshop and illustrator.
